Amazon’s AI technology in the review section: Will it Work?

The use of generative AI is becoming more common among companies of all sizes as a way to increase productivity and potentially replace certain personnel. Amazon and Jeff Bezos are leading the way in using AI and Large Language Models to improve the user experience.

Amazon has announced that it will use generative AI to help customers understand product reviews more easily. A short paragraph of text will be displayed on the product detail page, summarizing the product’s characteristics and consumer sentiment. This will help customers quickly understand the common themes running across the reviews.

In addition to the summary text, Amazon will highlight essential product features as clickable buttons. Clicking on a button will show only the reviews that use those specific phrases. This will provide a better user experience and reduce the time spent scrolling through reviews.

However, Amazon has acknowledged blocking 200 million fraudulent reviews in 2021 and has been trying to prevent false reviews for years.

With AI’s evolving capabilities, it may become even more challenging to detect fake reviews as the technology becomes more human-like.

This could lead to another wave of falsified reviews, which could affect the usefulness of Amazon’s AI-powered review summaries if Amazon cannot find alternative ways to prevent AI-written reviews from appearing on its site.
